Revolutionizing Education: The Academic Bank of Credit (ABC ID) Initiative in India.
Table of Contents
ABC ID is mandatory for students pursuing education in India. But how can you get this ABC ID?
Education is a fundamental human right. Economic progress and social development cannot be achieved without the strong foundations of higher education. There are nearly 26 crore students in the school system, but only 4 crore opt to pursue higher education. The Government of India is undertaking several measures to eradicate this issue. M Jagadesh Kumar, the current chairman of the University Grants Commission (UGC), announced that the commission has set a target to increase the gross higher education enrollment ratio to 50% by the year 2035.
The Indian government also aims to bring numerous reforms to the education system through the NEP as per the year 2020 (New Education Policy). One such scheme introduced by the UGC is the ABC scheme.
The government has introduced many new innovative schemes in the field of education. Introduced by the UGC is the ‘Academic Bank of Credit’ scheme, launched in July 2021. ABC has the potential to change the perception of education in the minds of people by offering flexibility and a student-centric approach to education.
Understanding the Academic Bank of Credit (ABC ID)
The Academic Bank of Credit was established by the UGC. It is a system that helps students accumulate all the academic credits that they have achieved from various recognized institutions. ABC is a repository system that allows seamless credit accumulation and transfers across different educational institutions. Students can later redeem these credits while obtaining a degree.
Here are a few benefits of getting an ABC ID:
1. Flexibility:
The academic bank of credit is highly appreciated by students. Students will no longer be bound by the traditional limitations of time and place. With the freedom to pursue education at their own speed from any educational institution, students can get numerous opportunities to follow their dreams and complete their education.
2. Accessibility
The ABC system enhances accessibility to education for all, irrespective of their age or working status. It opens doors for learners from a variety of backgrounds, including working professionals and adult learners.
Challenges and the Road Ahead
While the Academic Bank of Credit holds colossal potential, it also brings in a few challenges. ABC has immense promise, but it is not without its challenges. Various implementation issues, processes for standardization, and resistance to change from traditional educational ideas are some of the obstacles that need to be addressed. But the government has been taking timely measures to solve them all.
